Match Report by Tony Middleton
Urchins made a strong start, Janney through to
Lee who was tackled by Tredget as he was about to shoot. A minute later
Janney again, this time to Cross, who powered in and crashed a shot against
the bar. Tomlinson sent a long ball down to Janney, and he played it inside
to Parker who was unable to get to the ball before Cutchey cleared, but back
in came, from Glozier and Parker header was tipped around by Bowyer. Over
came the corner and SIMON PARKER opened the scoring with a well placed shot.
A good build up by Janney, Cross and Fletcher, and Ron played the ball over
to Tomlinson whose shot went for a corner, which Tomlinson took and Cutchey
headed out. It was one way only and a long ball sent Simon Parker racing
clear, and he was fouled by Tredget who escaped with a yellow card. Up
stepped Mark Janney for the penalty, and Bowyer hurled himself to his right
to save, with Hull hammering the ball out of play as Janney moved in for the
rebound. From the corner, the ball was scrambled off the line, and another
corner resulted, which Janney floated over and McFarlane headed just wide.
Hilaire, and then Passfield, both received yellow cards for fouls, and from
the latter free kick Janney went close. Swifts broke away and won a corner,
which Hilaire took and Purdie cleared. The ball was played back and fielded
by Brightly, whose long upfield kick found KRIS LEE speeding through the
middle and the ball was hammered home for the second goal.
It could easily have been three when a Glozier piledriver skimmed the post
at max force. Goal number three came when Kris Lee was again fouled, the
referee taking a lenient view as the offending player had already been
booked. GARRY CROSS this time took the penalty, scoring with a neatly placed
low kick to the keeper’s right. Fletcher then gave Southon a good opening
and Jamie played the ball to Cross who fired wide, and then a Lee header was
saved by Bowyer who then grabbed the loose ball as Tomlinson came in at
speed.
At half time Max played a few Xmas records which sent most of the crowd
scurrying to the sanctity of the bar. Urchins nearly made it four within a
few seconds of the restart, Lee making the running and turning the ball
inside to Tomlinson whose first time lobbed shot dropped just over the bar.
Then a Glozier free kick reached Parker whose flicked flashed past the post.
A good twist and turn by Parker found Collins, only just on the field for
Tomlinson, and the ball was played out to Janney, who made ground and
crossed, but Hunter managed to put the ball out for a corner, which Janney
played short to Southon, who hit a first time shot just wide of the post.
Collins and Lee combined to set up the fourth goal, though SIMON PARKER did
well to turn and create space for himself to lob the ball over Bowyer. With
Swifts rarely breaking across the half way line it was almost completely one
way. A Janney run saw the ball neatly slotted through to Lee who shot wide,
and a Parker solo run opened up the defence before Simon turned the ball
back to Collins, whose shot swerved alarmingly and just missed the corner
post. On came Amos, whose first shot was well saved by Bowyer. Foyewa
continued to run at the defence and created havoc. Swifts broke away, Gooch
managing their first and only on target shot of the match, which Brightly
saved. Collins and Foyewa opened up the right side for Janney who cut in and
his chip shot landed on the roof of the net, whilst another Janney run saw
Mark centre to Collins, whose shot was touched around the post for a corner,
which Janney played short to Fletcher, but the centre was headed away as
McFarlane came forward. A Foyewa solo run ended with a fine shot which was
blocked by a defender, and two successive Collins corners saw first
McFarlane and then Styles go close. Another Foyewa sortie upfield set up
Cross, his shot being well saved by a very overworked Bowyer, and shortly
afterwards another Cross shot was turned out for a corner. Foyewa twisted
and turned his way through a packed defence to find Parker, whose shot hit
the post and was bundled out for a corner, and two further corners, both
from Collins, had Foyewa and McFarlane going close, and Urchins ran out
comfortable winners against an enthusiastic but totally outclassed Heybridge
side.
