OFF - Ngoye ON - Everett |
Following a miserable and difficult November for the club when we were knocked
out of 4 cup competitions and managed only a draw in the league, we started
December with 3 hard earned points courtesy of a well taken goal from Greg Ngoye.
Apart from an early headed chance for Jean-Michel Sigere which went just wide
from an Ian Cousins cross, the home side were on top in the early stages.
An Aaron Barnett free header from a Peter Benevides free kick on 9 minutes was
well held by Micky Desborough and a long range effort from John Keister drifted
narrowly wide a minute later. Micky Desborough saved well on 11 minutes
from a Benevides shot but it was from then that the tide turned. A Sigere
cross was pushed away from the path of Danny Shipp in the 19th minute by keeper
Peter Trego following a ball down the right from Danny Hill, but in the 24th
minute we took the lead. A high Danny Hill cross was not dealt with by the
Margate defence and it fell to
Ngoye who controlled the ball and drilled it home via the post with Trego left
motionless. Margate nearly hit back on 30 minutes when Scott Gooding was
robbed in the middle of the park and the ball was quickly moved forward to put
Benevides clear who shot across goal and just wide. Sigere again had a
chance to score against his own club 10 minutes before half time when he did
well to control a difficult ball into the area, turned and shot a rasping drive
which was forced over by Trego.
On the hour an Andy Tomlinson run and shot went just wide and four minutes later
Che Stadhart went close after we struggled to clear the ball from a Margate
attack. In the 72nd minute a carefully curled shot from the corner of the
area from Tomlinson brought out an acrobatic save from Trego and two minutes
later Desborough came out well to thwart Benevides after he tried to latch on to
a ball over the defence from Ross Smith. At this stage Margate were
pressing hard for the equaliser as we seemed to tire, and gave our defence
plenty to do. Their pressure nearly paid off with 12 minutes left when a
high cross from Benevides came back off the post with Desborough beaten.
